Born in Santa Cruz, USA Surfing Team Captain, AAC Rep, and Board of Directors member Christiaan "Otter" Bailey grew up in France and was a professional free surfer, skateboarder and surf safari guide in West Africa for years.
After an injury in 2006 rendered him dependent on a wheelchair for mobility (crushed vertebrae suffered during the filming of a skateboard video) he spent 11 years traveling the world on the able-bodied WCT and WQS putting on expression sessions to promote the growth of adaptive surfing.
He's a pioneer of WCMX (Wheelchair Skating) and adaptive big wave surfing by being the first to surf Mavericks, Pipeline and Nelscott Reef. He serves on the ISA Adaptive Surfing Advisory Board. He is a six-time USA National Champion and a nine-time ISA World Championship medalist.
