Twelve junior team athletes earn their spots to represent Team USA on the international stage
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (June 25, 2026) — USA Surfing completed its ISA Junior Team Trials today at Brookhurst Street in Huntington Beach, California, naming a dozen athletes across the U16 and U18 Boys and Girls divisions. These surfers will represent the United States at the upcoming ISA World Junior Surfing Championship to be held this September in Surf City, El Salvador.
Competitors faced punchy three-to-five-foot hollow lefts with the occasional right, and light winds throughout the day allowed surfers to attack the powerful surf with confidence. The field drawn from the top East and West Coast Prime Division finishers battled through two full rounds made up of three 20-minute heats, with combined heat placings determining advancement and final team selection.
"Today at Brookhurst St HB may go down as one of the gnarliest one-day events to unfold for USA Surfing," said USA Surfing Head Coach Ryan Simmons. "Surfers in the four ISA divisions of Boys and Girls U16 and U18 battled for the coveted three spots per division. The competitors took advantage of the punch conditions throwing big snaps and smashing end sections like their career was on the line! Team USA looks strong and is already planning how to best last year's ISA Team Silver, and looking for Gold."
