Nation’s top under-18 surfers will compete June 16–20 at Lower Trestles, the same wave selected for Olympic surfing in 2028.
(San Clemente, Calif.) — USA Surfing today announced that Hurley will return as Presenting Sponsor of the 2026 USA Surfing Championships at Lower Trestles, bringing one of surfing’s most influential youth-culture brands back to the premier national stage for America’s top under-18 surfers. The event, set for June 16–20, 2026, will take place at the same wave selected to host Olympic surfing at the LA28 Games.
The sponsorship comes as USA Surfing enters a pivotal 2028 cycle and hosts the nation’s top juniors talents chasing dreams of reaching the podium on the world's largest sporting stage.
With back-to-back women’s Olympic gold medals already on the board—Carissa Moore at Tokyo 2020 and Caroline Marks at Paris 2024—the U.S.heads into the 2026 Olympic qualifying year with a strong pipeline of young talent. Many of those future Olympians will paddle out at Lowers next month.
“Hurley is proud to support the next generation of top surf talent,” said Brett Simpson, Hurley’s Head of Sports Marketing. “As a former WSL Championship Tour athlete, USA Surfing junior, and Olympic coach, I’ve seen first hand how pivotal these events are in preparing athletes for the world stage. With LA28 qualifying underway and Lower Trestles set as the Olympic venue, there has never been a more important moment to invest in our youth surfers.”
“Hurley is investing in the American surf talent pipeline at the exact moment the sport is entering its most exciting moment with an Olympic home games,” said Becky Fleischauer, CEO of USA Surfing. “Hurley’s investment in our Championship event has an unmatched multiplier effect, creating opportunities for the nation’s top under-18 surfers to progress. That kind of give-back ethic and commitment to talent development is exactly what this generation needs as we head into the first qualifying year on home soil.”
Hurley’s return as presenting sponsor represents a bold commitment to backing America’s surf talent. The brand’s leadership ensures that American surfers—regardless of their individual sponsorships—have a high-level national stage on which to compete, qualify, and earn junior national team spots. The Hurley backing will support elite-level competition infrastructure, athlete storytelling, and a live broadcast.
The event’s alumni list reads like a map of modern American surfing: Olympic gold medalists Carissa Moore and Caroline Marks, WSL WorldChampion Caity Simmers, Championship Tour standouts Gabriela Bryan, Eli Hanneman, Jake Marshall, Griffin and Crosby Colapinto, Lakey Peterson, Bettylou Sakura Johnson, Cole Houshmand, Sawyer Lindblad, Bella Kenworthy, Alyssa Spencer, and more all came through USA Surfing’s development pathway.
The USA Surfing Championship at Lower Trestles brings together the nation’s best under-18 surfers—athletes who earned their spots through top performances on the East Coast, West Coast, and Hawaii. The event is one of the most important proving grounds for the young surfers who will shape the U.S.talent pipeline on the WSL’s Championship tour, ISA World Championship events, and those striving to compete in LA28.
“Being the brand that backs youth surfing at such a pivotal moment for the sport is a natural fit for Hurley,” Simpson added. “These events represent the heart of surf culture—talent, passion, grit, and community.”
Hurley has long stood out for making surfing more visible andaccessible—promoting surf imagery and apparel in retail spaces across all 50 states. Their continued investment in para surfing, alongside shortboard and SUP disciplines, underscores a shared commitment to community.
“Hurley and USA Surfing both believe surfing is for everyone,” Fleischauer added. “We’re united in our mission to expand access to a sportthat builds confidence, resilience, and connection—to the ocean, and to each other.”
