More than 250 of the country's best surfers, ages 10-to-18, traveled from across the United States to compete at the world-famous Lower Trestles, the venue selected to host surfing during the LA28 Olympic Games. Throughout the year, these athletes competed in regional and national events to earn their place at the prestigious championship. The event is widely regarded as the premier pathway to international competition and elite-level surfing.

Competitors were greeted by exceptional conditions throughout the week, with consistent four- to six-foot surf and larger sets providing a world-class stage for the next generation of American surfing talent. Surfers delivered outstanding performances across every division, posting numerous excellent-range scores and showcasing the remarkable progression taking place within junior surfing across the United States.

The beach atmosphere reflected the significance of the event. Coaches, families, teammates, and supporters lined the shoreline each day to cheer on the athletes as they competed for national titles and coveted spots on USA Surfing National Teams.

"For more than two decades, the USA Surfing Junior Championships have identified and developed the athletes who go on to represent our country at the highest levels of the sport," said Greg Hulsizer, chief executive officer of USA Surfing. "Standing on the beach this week, watching these young surfers perform on the future Olympic venue, it was impossible not to be excited about the future. Watching these young competitors perform at such a high level on the same wave that will host the LA28 Olympic Games gives us tremendous confidence in the next generation of Team USA surfers."

With surfing set to stage at Lower Trestles for the LA28 Olympic Games, this year's competitors had the unique opportunity to compete on the same wave where the next Olympic champions will be crowned two summers from now.

”The 2026 USA Championships was the best event USA Surfing has ever run,” said Ryan Simmons, USA Surfing Head Coach. “The waves were epic all week. Pumping 6-10 foot faces graced the cobblestone point of Lower Trestles for the athletes to revel in. The performance of the surfers were some of the most radical and dynamic we've ever seen.”

USA Surfing has a rich history of developing future champions, including Olympic gold medalists Carissa Moore (Tokyo 2020) and Caroline Marks (Paris 2024). Their success underscores the event's role as a proving ground for future Olympic and professional achievement.
