USA Surfing is stoked to kick off the 2024-25 Prime Series competition October 19-20 on the East Coast in Atlantic City and October 26-27 on the West Coast at Oceanside Harbor. See full schedule below.
USA Surfing Prime Series is the highest level of junior (under age 18) surfing in the nation, drawing talent from up and down the East and West coasts for pro-level competition experiences designed to prepare young surfers for the big leagues of surfing. 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks and fellow Olympians Griffin Colapinto and Caity Simmers competed in the USA Surfing Prime Series. Caroline still holds the record for the most USA Surfing Championship wins. Prime Series surfers on both coasts compete for ranking positions that accumulate throughout the season to earn coveted spots to surf in the “Super Bowl” of under 18 surfing - the USA Surfing Championships held at Lower Trestles in June featuring the top surfers from the East and West Coasts, Texas Gulf, and Hawaii. “As the new Prime season draws near, I’d like to congratulate the new and returning qualifiers, and wish you a successful new season with an awesome schedule and great venues,” said USA Surfing head coach Ryan Simmons. “The Prime Series is designed to condition our surfers to handle the rigors of pro-level competition once they graduate out of the U18 events. The format mirrors the WSL QS formats with four-person, 20-minute heats, priority, and WSL QS and CT-level judging. From the Competition crew and all of USA surfing we say good luck and let’s have a great year!” The 2024-25 schedule includes nine stops up and down East and West Coasts: East Coast October 19-20, 2024 – Atlantic City, NJ February 22-23, 2025 – Ponce Inlet, Fla. (with NSB as back up pending forecast) March 1-2, 2025 – Jacksonville, Fla. May 17-18, 2025 – Jenette’s Pier, Nags Head, NC West Coast October 26-27, 2024 – Oceanside Jetty November 23-24, 2024 – Pismo Beach Pier February 1-2, 2025 – Oceanside Pier March 8-9, 2025 – Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz April 12-13, 2025 – Huntington Beach Pier USA Surfing will continue Power Your Performance workshops to support surfers’ development and progression in and out of the water. Coaches Courtney Conlogue and Simmo will hold a September Power Your Performance Zoom session on planning for a new season, goal setting and daily habits that set surfers up for success. Workshops will also be held the Friday before each Prime Series, tapping expertise at each location to help surfers work on balance and mobility, learn from mindset practitioners, nutritionists, and sports performance specialists. Each competition will also include a “Love it Like a Local” beach cleanup to show responsibility and respect for the beaches and ocean that are surfing’s playing field. To help fund USA Surfing programs that support the next generation of surf talent, a force of dedicated East and West coast parents are spearheading the “Local Love” fundraising campaign. The three-week campaign starting in September will include donor outreach and a series of fundraisers on each coast to reach a goal of $50,000 ($25k from each coast). “The Prime Series operates at a modest shortfall for each event, so this is a great way to support the competition series without putting registration fees out of reach for families,” said board treasurer Laura Bren. “Parents are stoked on the opportunity for their local communities and networks to support rising surf talent from hometowns across the nation.” USA Surfing’s parent fundraising committee is led by USA Surfing board treasurer Laura Bren, and parent leaders Erin McLeish, Stephanie Lavik, Mary Todd, Brian Stanton, Joy Nipper, Nikki Deane, Tamie Hultgren, Heather Tran, Kerri Mazzarella and Francine Honda. They are looking for parent volunteers for each of the Prime Series stops listed above.
