(July 18, 2020) -- USA Surfing extends our deepest condolences to our Japanese surfing family, the Nippon Surfing Association, for the loss of dear friend and Team Japan Olympic coach, Yoshinaga-san.
Yoshi-san, who will be honored at a public service today, was known for his infectious smile, wisdom and commitment to excellence. He was an influential force behind the rise of Japan’s young talent, which won team gold at the 2018 International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Surfing Championship. At the 2019 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Huntington Beach, USA Surfing hosted a "Thank you Japan" barbecue for Team Japan and their coaching staff. “We were able to express our appreciation to coach Yoshi-san and the Japanese team for their generous assistance in planning our Olympic logistics and for being formidable but gracious competitors,” said USA Surfing CEO Greg Cruse. “He will be greatly missed and remembered. His legacy will continue into surfing’s first Olympic Games and beyond.” Comments are closed.
