With the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (USOPC) National Governing Body certification process moving forward, this is a pivotal moment for USA Surfing and the athletes we serve. The USOPC continues to evaluate USA Surfing’s National Governing Body candidacy to lead the sport into the LA28 Olympic Games—where the Olympic surf competition takes place in USA Surfing’s backyard at Lower Trestles.

As USA Surfing CEO Becky Fleischauer notes, “Throughout this process USA Surfing’s focus has always been doing what’s best for surfers and the future of surfing. That remains our north star. We look forward to demonstrating that USA Surfing is aligned, resourced and ready to produce medal success and elevate American surfers on the Olympic stage and across every ISA pathway.”

Support from across the surf community underscores the importance of USA Surfing's NGB certification. Surf Industry Members Association executive director Vipe Desai highlights that surfers, families, coaches, and industry voices have long called for leadership grounded in authentic surf culture. USA Surfing is recognized by the International Surfing Association, built the athlete pipeline that produced America’s Olympians, and has the operational capacity to deliver high-performance results. As Desai notes in a statement to USOPC: “The surf industry is ready to support a National Governing Body that reflects our culture, serves our athletes, and strengthens surfing’s future on the Olympic stage.”

Looking ahead to LA28, USA Surfing has the backing of surfers at all levels, coaches, and the organizations that are critical along U.S. surfers journey to the Games. Fleischauer adds, “We understand surfers’ unique needs, we know what it takes to win medals, we have the financial strength to support them, and we’re a team dedicated solely to surfing.” With broad community support and a clear path forward, USA Surfing is ready to lead U.S. surfers through this hearing and toward Olympic success.
