At the beginning of the season, surfers are ranked/seeded based on previous season results. Surfers' seed remains unchanged until they surf their first event. The top 3 of 4/5 event scores will count toward the surfer's ranking. For events 1 through 3, rankings are based on average points. After event 4, rankings are based on the total of the top 3 results. Minimum required number of events (3 West, 3 East) count toward season titles and qualification for USA Surfing Championships at Lower Trestles, San Onofre State Beach, CA in June. Must surf required number of events and finish in the top 50% of surfers who surfed the required number of events. (Please stand by. A new ratings explainer page - with more detailed explanations and example scenarios - will be here posted shortly.) (Names in lower case indicate alternates.) (USA Championship qualification cut line is different than Prime season next season requalification cut line. Champs ratings are not included for Prime requalification. The requalification cut line will be announced after surfers have been aged out and aged up. Points for surfers aging up will be taken at 80% and compared/put in order with the kids' points earned in the upper division. Then the cut line will be based on the chosen field size for the season. )
