USA Surfing is stoked to introduce the monthly Coach’s Oats "Outplay the Day" award, recognizing surfers who embody a positive mindset and embrace the journey of improving their competitive surfing.
“This award celebrates those who understand that success in surfing—and in life—is not defined by a single contest or score, but through a consistent focus on growth, learning and improvement,” said head coach Ryan Simmons. “The "Outplay the Day" award reflects the core values of Coach’s Oats, a family-owned business that has thrived by prioritizing quality, hard work, and learning from our customers,” said Coach’s Oats marketing director Calvin Rogers. “Like the surfers who will be honored, Coach’s Oats believes in the power of a positive attitude and understanding that in surfing, business and life, there are inevitable ups and downs as you strive for your goals. We want to use the award to highlight the value of staying the course, and believing in yourself. Each month, the coaches will select a surfer who will be featured on USA Surfing’s social media platforms. The winner will also receive a special prize package, including delicious and fortifying Coach’s Oats organic overnight oats in a customized Hurley backpack—a perfect blend of nutrition and style to support their ongoing journey in and out of the water. Coaches Courtney Conlogue and Ryan Simmons will host a September 23rd Zoom with surfers to help them set goals for the new USA Surfing Prime Series season and map out a plan with daily habits for achieving their goals. USA Surfing Prime Series is the highest level of junior (under age 18) surfing in the nation, drawing talent from up and down the East and West coasts for pro-level competition experiences designed to prepare young surfers for the big leagues of surfing. 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks and fellow Olympians Griffin Colapinto and Caity Simmers competed in the USA Surfing Prime Series. Caroline still holds the record for the most USA Surfing Championship wins. “If we don’t make a plan for achieving the goals we set, it becomes easy to lose interest and motivation when we don’t see progress,” said coach Courtney Conlogue, who was USA Surfing’s youngest surfer to compete internationally and had 13 event wins on the WSL Championship Tour. “I’m looking forward to talking to our surfers about the path and milestones along the way that are required to attain big goals. These ‘process goals’ are arguably the most important ones we set, because they are the controllable, daily habits we put in place that overtime move us toward our goals.” USA Surfing is grateful to Coach’s Oats and Hurley for supporting the next generation of surf talent.
