San Clemente, Calif. (June 26, 2025) — Lower Trestles delivered a world-class proving ground for the next generation of American surf talent, as the 2025 Hoag USA Surfing Championship presented by Hurley concluded an epic week of competition.
The competition featured surfers who qualified to compete at the elite event –242 of the top surfers from the East and West Coasts and Hawaii. The premiere division – the Girls and Boys U18, featured breakout performances from the West Coast Prime Series – Oceanside’s Timo Simmers and San Clemente’s Hana Bakker. Both had never won an event, saving their best for Championship at Lowers.

With classic Lowers’ wave conditions, and a beach lined with fans, families, coaches, and surf industry leaders, this year’s Championship showcased why Lowers is the ultimate canvas for performance surfing—and the official venue for the 2028 LA OlympicGames.
A Proving Ground witha Proven Legacy
USA Surfing’s Championship at Lowers has been a core milestone in the careers of the world’s top surfers. 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks still holds the record for the most USA Surfing Championship titles here. WSL World Champion andOlympian Caity Simmers, Olympian Griffin Colapinto, WSL Rookies of the YearSawyer Lindblad and Crosby Colapinto, Cole Houshmand, Jake Marshall, Lakey Peterson, and many others have all stood on this stage on their way to the big leagues of surfing.
