USA Surfing Wins Team Silver as Huntington Beach's BaileyTurner Claims Gold at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship

Team of nation's top under 18 surfers shines in Peru; Bailey Turner joins Caroline Marks and Caity Simmers as Girls U16 ISA World Champions

Punta Rocas, Peru - USA Surfing's team of the nation's top under 18 surfers earned Team Silver and Huntington Beach stand out Bailey Turner captured individual Gold in Girls U16 at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Peru.

The pride of Huntington Beach, Turner surfed brilliantly through a marathon nine days of competition, staying composed and powerful against the world's best under 16 surfers and finishing on top of the podium for Team USA.

With her win, Bailey joins Caroline Marks and Caity Simmers as American surfers who have earned Girls U16 ISA Gold, placing her in an elite lineage of junior world champions who have gone on to represent the United States on the sport's biggest stages.

Head coach Ryan Simmons said he could not be more proud of a squad that was largely made up of first time ISA competitors.

"It was an epic day for USA Surfing as Bailey Turner smashed a huge backside snap for a 6.30 to become the Girls U16 ISA World Champion," said Simmons. "She kept saying all week she still had not gotten the wave she was looking for, but that wave came with barely any time left in the final. She was visibly fatigued after a marathon nine days of competition, but her perseverance paid off and she got ‘the wave’.

“Surfing’s like my favorite thing in the world, and the team support with USA Surfing is just the best. This win means so much to me and I couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone, my family, the whole crew here and at home in Huntington, my coaches, my sponsors. I’m super happy and beyond stoked” Turner said in her post-heat interview.

In the overall, Team USA clinched the Silver medal with finals day performances from Lanea Mons, who finished 5th in Girls U18, and of course Bailey's Gold in Girls U16. But it was the team spirit and cohesion that showed all week and helped us reach the highest heights of team competition."

The United States finished second in the team rankings behind Australia (Gold), with Brazil taking Bronze and Peru Copper. Spain finished 5th and Hawaii 6th, underscoring the depth of talent in one of the world's premier under 18 surfing events. This year's event had record participation with surfers competing from 57 nations.

Beyond the medals, Simmons highlighted the camaraderie, heart, and growth shown by the team over 9 intense days of surfing.

"Many of this year’s team were wearing the ISA jersey on the world stage for the first time," he said. "They not only met the moment, they exceeded expectations and finished near the top of the world rankings. This experience and the friendships they built are something they will carry for the rest of their lives."
